Superior Court Judge Maria Cenzon has set November 10 as the date to resume jury selection in the long-delayed murder trial of Nicholas Wayne Moore — accused in the shooting death of 27-year-old Michael Castro, whose remains were found a year after his disappearance in 2020. The proceedings were briefly delayed after defense attorney David Lujan was hospitalized. Lujan appeared virtually in court Wednesday, telling Judge Cenzon he’s since been discharged but is still awaiting medical clearance from his doctor in Manila. Cenzon said the new schedule allows time for Lujan to recover and submit documentation of his medical status. Jury selection will continue through November 14, with the court recessing on Veterans Day. Four jurors were excused this week — citing health issues, age, and travel conflicts — prompting prosecutors to request additional alternates to avoid a potential mistrial. The court is now considering increasing the number of alternates from six to eight.
