Jurgen Klopp as next Celtic manager claim triggers Rangers pair as Dermot Desmond urged to dig deeper than ever

Charlie Mulgrew has told Celtic chiefs to go BIG with their next appointment - by throwing their money at Jurgen Klopp. The Hoops are scouring the market for a new boss in the wake of Brendan Rodgers' bombshell exit , with Martin O'Neill making a sensational return as interim gaffer. O'Neill has made an instant impact too, leading Celts to back-to-back wins and into the Premier Sports Cup Final after dumping Rangers in the semis. But Parkhead supremo Dermot Desmond is weighing up a list of candidates as the champions deliberate who should take up the reins on a permanent basis. Desmond made a massive statement in the summer of 2016 by luring ex-Liverpool boss Rodgers to Glasgow as a replacement for Ronny Deila . And despite the relationship between the pair eventually turning sour, Rodgers conquered Scottish football across his two spells - winning 11 of 13 domestic trophies including two Trebles. Now, Mulgrew has urged Desmond to go all out on another marquee appointment by picking up the phone to Premier League and Champions League-winning Klopp. Since leaving Anfield in 2024, the German legend has taken a break from management by working as Red Bull's Head of Global Soccer. And while it's extremely improbable the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss would even consider moving to Scotland, Mulgrew believes Klopp could be tempted - much to the amusement of ex-Rangers pair Kris Boyd and Steven Naismith on the latest edition of The Warm-Up show . Charlie Mulgrew: "I would go all out and get Jurgen Klopp in the door." Kris Boyd: "Oh my days..." Steven Naismith: "Jesus! Are you playing Football Manager here, man? You can't say that with a straight face!" Mulgrew: "Why not? £7million a year. Give him it. Jurgen Klopp in the door. What's your argument against it? I know it's unrealistic, right. But could Dermot Desmond go, 'Do you know what? We're going to bounce back after Rodgers here and we're going to go big." Naismith: "If you're Jurgen Klopp, are you thinking, 'I'm going to go to Celtic when I could go to any top five league in the world?'" Mulgrew: "There aren't many bigger European teams than Celtic. If it was Rangers, it would be a different story... you wouldn't go anywhere near that place!" Boyd: "Charles, let's move on. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard." Mulgrew: "Who would you take at Celtic? You are raging because you don't want it to be Klopp. You are shooting it down in case it gathers pace and Klopp goes, 'Oh, I quite fancy that!' You are raging about that!" Boyd: "It's definitely not happening..." Naismith: "I think it's a hard appointment." Mulgrew: "Somebody mentioned Del McInnes." Boyd: "No chance." Naismith: "I can't see it." Mulgrew: "Me either. An ex-Rangers player cannot take the Celtic job."
