Demon Slayer had one of the most commercially successful years of any anime in history in 2025, but even the formidable franchise couldn't take down Jujutsu Kaisen in one surprising area. Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen are two of the best shōnen series of the modern day, and they're often competing for the top spot in a lot of areas. When people look back at shōnen in the 2020s, Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen will be two of the first franchises that pop up. They're both amazing series willing to go where other franchises aren't, showcasing some of the darkest, most brutal stories in the medium masterfully. Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution may be a contender vying for Demon Slayer's crown at the box office, but before then, there's a top spot that Jujutsu Kaisen has already stolen from its rival. Demon Slayer Dominated 2025 Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Is an All-Time Great Demon Slayer is in a league of its own when it comes to movies. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has become the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time, surpassing all-time greats like Spirited Away, Your Name, and the previous record holder Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. Demon Slayer's most recent film was so successful that it's reshaping the entire anime industry. Now that anime companies have realized that films can be incredibly lucrative, every anime franchise is getting one. From battle-heavy shōnen series to even slower-paced series like The Apothecary Diaries, anime movies will be the future. While Demon Slayer's massive success might not be a good thing, there's no denying the success itself. Demon Slayer is moving anime into the mainstream of American culture, paving a way for every anime series after it. Jujutsu Kaisen Has One Sorcerer Who Beats Everyone in Demon Slayer Currently, There's No Anime Character as Beloved as Satoru Gojo Even though Demon Slayer has made 2025 its year, one character from Jujutsu Kaisen has come out on top in a hilarious, heart-warming poll. Animeanime.jp polled their fans on the first male character they fell in love with, and while the Water Hashira Giyu Tomioka came in as a close second, Satoru Gojo took the crown. Tomioka and Gojo couldn't be more different. Tomioka is incredibly stoic, often keeps to himself, and is easily the calmest Hashira in the series. Gojo is the exact opposite: he's bold, brash, and more than willing to show off his abilities if given the opportunity.
