Josh Hartnett was taken to the hospital after the SUV he was driving collided with a police car in Newfoundland.

The Trap actor, 47, was a passenger when the incident occurred at 1am on Thursday, September 25, with an unnamed 59-year-old man driving the vehicle when it struck a Royal Newfoundland Constabulary patrol car, the CBC reports.

He was in the area to film a new drama titled the ‘untitled Netflix Newfoundland series’ also starring Mackenzie Davis, Charlie Heaton, Natasha Henstridge, Ruby Stokes, Joshua Close and Rohan Campbell.

‘As a precaution, one of our officers was also transported to hospital,’ the force said in a statement, confirming that Hartnett, the driver and officer were all assessed for minor injuries.

The collision at an intersection left both vehicles heavily damaged, with Hartnett’s representative confirming he has since been released from the hospital to resume working.

The six-episode show follows a mysterious sea creature terrorising a remote Newfoundland town where a hard-bitten fisherman (Hartnett) must fight to protect ‘his family, his community, and his vanishing way of life.’

The Hollywood star most recently starred as the leading man in horror, M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap, where he played a sinister serial killer – and he sought inspiration for the character from the very top.

‘There are a lot of CEOs, politicians, people in our business… a lot of people who are at the top,

‘They don’t mind stepping over people or doing horrible things to get where they’re going, and not having any empathy is a pretty big sign of being a psychopath.

‘Whether or not you’re murdering people, I’ve met people like this, you know what I mean? So it was easy to take it all a step further, make it a little bolder, and make his cover so intense.’

A handful of actors have sustained injuries recently, including Tom Holland (Picture: Getty)

He’s not the only one who has had to recover from injury in the middle of filming. Last week, Tom Holland was forced to pause work on the new Spider-Man movie after sustaining a head injury.

The 29-year-old suffered a mild concussion after a stunt gone wrong, recently updating fans on his Instagram story that he is ‘feeling better and on the mend now’.

Meanwhile, Henry Cavill was also forced to stand down from filming the new Highlander reboot after he hurt his leg during filming.

He recently shared a picture of his bandaged-up leg alongside the poem Invictus from William Ernest Henley.

Metro has reached out to Josh Hartnett’s representative, Netflix and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary for comment.
