Jorrel Hato Slammed For ‘All Over the Place’ Display vs Qarabag

Chelsea managed to nick a point with a 2-2 draw away to Azerbaijani minnows Qarabag on Wednesday night, and one of Enzo Maresca's summer signings has come under fire for a disappointing display. The in-form Estevao gave the Blues the lead in the 16th minute before the hosts hit back through Leandro Andrade in the 29th minute. Gurban Gurbanov's men then took a deserved lead from the penalty spot in the 39th minute when Marko Jankovic sent Esco Maresca the wrong way. Alejandro Garnacho came off the bench and netted his first goal for the club to crucially drew Maresca's side level in the 53rd minute. The two teams eventually settled on a draw and that will frustrate the Premier League giants given they were heavy favorites to secure their third win of the Champions League campaign. Qarabag 2-2 Chelsea - Jorrel Hato 'All Over The Place' Chelsea were once again busy in the summer, spending just over £280m on new signings, including young Dutch defender Jorrel Hato. The 19-year-old arrived from Ajax in a £39m deal after his stock had grown in the Eredivisie. It's been a slow start to life at Stamford Bridge for Hato and Maresca gave him an opportunity to impress with a start against Qarabag. The teenager didn't make the most of just his sixth start of the season, and was in fact partly to blame for both of the home side's goals. Some sloppy defending allowed the Azerbaijani outfit to pounce and Andrade to equalise. He then handled in his own box to gift the opposition a penalty and he was toyed with by Colombian winger Camilo Duran throughout the night. Shay Given analysed Hato's performance as a pundit for TNT Sports and the former Newcastle United goalkeeper voiced his concerns: "They deserve the lead at half-time. Hato at the back is all over the place. You don't want to be too harsh, he's a young centre-half, only 19. He gets a bit tangled up." Hato is just getting started in west London but performances such as his display in Baku will raise question marks over the club's recruitment strategy. Maresca was arguably crying out for an experienced defender to help him deal with Levi Colwill's absence. Fans Slam 'Absolutely Useless' Hato Hato's nervy outing didn't go unnoticed by fans who were less polite than Given when assessing his night to forget. X user, TouchlineX, wrote: "JORREL HATO IS HAVING THE WORST NIGHT OF HIS CAREER! HE GAVE THE FIRST GOAL AWAY WITH A TERRIBLE MISTAKE AND NOW HE GAVE AWAY A PENALTY, TERRIBLE TERRIBLE NIGHT FOR HATO!" TikToker Toby Evenden compared the Dutch teen's performance to that of flop Tiemoue Bakayoko: "Bakayoko level from Hato tonight sadly." Another fan added: "This Hato performance is up there with Ziyech vs Zagreb and Bakayoko vs Watford." One admitted: "Hato has been awful. Really awful." Another fan gave an honest assessment: "Hato is absolutely useless. And I mean useless." The six-cap Netherlands international was signed with the future in mind but he was still expected to carry the form shown in his homeland with him to Chelsea. He clearly still needs time to adjust to life with the west Londoners who will expect to have a much easier night on Saturday (November 8) when they face managerless Wolverhampton Wanderers.
