Jon Jones has been picked by one of his former foes to turn a would-be barnburner clash with Alex Pereira into a lackluster showdown in a potential return. Seemingly all ears to a pairing with current light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, former two-weight champion Jon Jones took the time over the weekend to respond to the Brazilian’s latest callout of him. And linked heavily with a spectacular return from a recent retirement at next summer’s UFC White House event, Jones has been tied to a matchup with Pereira. However, for all the bells and whistles that come with the eye-catching pairing, fans have been warned Jones will likely do whatever it takes to flatten the exciting matchup in its tracks. Jon Jones backed to avoid Alex Pereira’s standup Running roughshod over both Ciryl Gane and Stipe Miocic in his pair of heavyweight fights before his retirement, Rochester star Jones made relatively light work of the former champions. And snapping a recent light heavyweight trend of cautious displays of decision wins, Jones has been tipped by former foe Rampage Jackson to revert course to a safety-first approach if pitted with monstrous knockout star Pereira. “I don’t think there’s anybody out there that can really beat Jon Jones, Jackson said on the JAXXON podcast. “Jon Jones is very intelligent with his decision-making of who he fights and his opponents. “…He knows what type of fight he’ll take to Alex Pereira. He’s not going to stand and bang with him. He doesn’t care about the entertainment — he cares about his legacy only.” Dana White unsure on Jon Jones’ return Pleading with long-time UFC leader Dana White to consider booking him on next year’s blockbuster card in Washington, Jones seems to have a competitive streak in him once more. But as far as the promotional boss is concerned, a bout for Jones on such a monumental card for the organization is unlikely as it could be.
