JOHNSONVILLE — A teacher at Johnsonville High School was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and battery after allegedly attacking a student at school. Raymond Alfred Haselden, 62, of Johnsonville, was arrested Nov. 5 after turning himself in, according to a release from the Florence Haselden allegedly snatched the student’s wrist, grabbed the student’s fingers and bent the right finger backward in an attempt to remove a cellphone from the student’s hand on or around Oct. 31, according to the release. The student was treated at the school. A representative from Florence County School District Five declined to comment. It’s unclear if Haselden is still employed with the district or at Johnsonville High. Haselden is still listed as a career and technical education, or CATE, teacher on the school’s website as of Nov. 5. He was later released from the Florence County Detention Center on a $1,090.50 personal recognizance bond. Third-degree assault and battery is a misdemeanor and a conviction carries a sentence of up to 30 days in prison and $500 fine under state law. This is a developing story that may be updated.
