Johnson’s 24 leads ‘Hoos to Opening Night win

Virginia, picked seventh in the ACC preseason poll, which translates to NCAA Tournament contender, opened its 2025-2026 season with an easy 86-36 win over Morgan State on Tuesday night. Preseason All-ACC guard Kymora Johnson had 24 points, six rebounds and five assists to lead the ‘Hoos, with Paris Clark contributing 18 points and eight boards. Romi Levy had eight points and 11 rebounds. This one was never a contest – it was 27-8 Virginia at the end of the first quarter and 53-17 at the break. “Well, it’s great to be back. I’m really proud of our group,” fourth-year UVA coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton said. “These games are difficult to get in the flow when people are switching up defenses. They played man, two-three zone. They played a little bit of a two-three matchup. There was a lot going on, so I was just happy that we weathered the storm. Yeah, got a little bit ugly when we got a little bit lax in the second half, but we did a good job of sticking to the game plan.” Highlights: ‘Hoos romp to Opening Night win
