President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has visited the family of the late Samuel Sarpong, who perished in the recent tragic helicopter crash which occurred in the Ashanti region on August 6, 2025.

In a TikTok video, the President called on the bereaved family after attending Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s burial ceremony at Manhyia Palace.

After commiserating with Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the funeral, Mahama hurriedly moved to the late Samuel Sarpong’s family house.

He went to the residence with an entourage comprising the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, and the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene.

The sons of the late Sarpong, who was the Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), clad in black mourning clothes, welcomed President Mahama into their home.

He heartily hugged one of the children outside and exchanged pleasantries before making his way inside the house, where he met the widow, daughter and several other relatives.

The President set aside three days for the nation to mourn the victims, climaxing it with a state funeral ceremony in Accra on Friday, August 15, 2025.

At the late Sarpong’s family house this week, Dr Frank Amoakohene shared some words of encouragement on behalf of the president.

In another TikTok video, he reminded the still-grieving family of its commitments to the family, including an educational fund for the children of the eight victims.

The family also communicated plans to pay their last respects to the late Sarpong. On October 18, 2025, he will be given a royal burial in Juaben, where he hailed from.
