Joel Dommett has set his sights on presenting This Morning on a full-time basis ahead of the National Television Awards 2025. The popular comedian, 40, will be hosting the annual event for the fifth year in a row from the O2 in London. Having replaced David Walliams in the role in 2021, Joel will be bringing his comedic skills to the event where stars from all walks of TV are honoured. Last year saw Joel perform a song to kick start the affair, joined by Strictly Come Dancing star Anton Du Beke during the routine, Joel’s song saw him give shoutouts to the likes of Bradley Walsh and Ant and Dec. It’s been a busy period for the 40-year-old, who hosted This Morning with Emma Willis during the summer when Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard were on their holidays. Joel got on well during his time on the ITV programme, providing insights into his personal life and interviewing a range of guests. Asked in the new issue of Woman magazine if he would do This Morning full-time, Joel said: “I think I would. I really enjoy it. “And the crew and production team deserve huge credit – producing a live two-and-a-half hour show every day that’s genuinely entertaining is unbelievably difficult. “The only pressure I feel is to do justice to all their hard work.” According to Joel , he relished just how different each of the This Morning shows he presented were due to the nature of the show. He explained: “There’s no other show that gives you two-and-a-half hours of live telly covering absolutely everything. “One moment I was talking to a woman who nearly died after a Brazilian butt lift, the next I was learning how to make a poached egg! “Then there’s fashion – standing there while models walk past in beautiful dresses, and I’m thinking, ‘What do I say as a 40-year-old man?’ The only thing that ever comes out is, ‘That’s nice. You look lovely’.” Beginning presenting The Masked Singer in 2023, where famous people sing songs in a disguise, Joel praised the series for bringing ‘stability’ to his TV career. “The Masked Singer changed a lot for me, and gave me more stability. That said, in this business, you’re always two jobs away from unemployment. “A show can be cancelled overnight, and then you’re suddenly thinking, ‘Uh oh’. So I keep that in mind. But at the same time, I don’t want to miss important family moments, so I’m learning to get that balance right,” he stated. Joel went on to admit that he would deem his TV career a success if he were still on television screens ‘20 years from now’. “Staying here is harder than getting here. TV is changing so fast, with new platforms and social media. If I’m still doing this 20 years from now, like Ant [McPartlin] and Dec [Donnelly], I’d consider that a success,” he said.
