Joe Marler tipped for huge new job despite fears rugby icon would punch Traitors star

Former England rugby star Joe Marler has won over many members of the British public for his work on Celebrity Traitors. So much so that the beanie-toting bruiser has been backed to become the next James Bond . It took this season's cast of Faithfuls some time to zero in on their targets, but the Traitors have finally started to fall. And despite rugby's reputation as a coliseum of meatheads, Marler has led the charge to track down the deceivers thanks to his special method for spotting liars . The ex-Harlequins prop was one of the first to speak up about his suspicions that Jonathan Ross could be one of the Traitors . And after successfully campaigning for the ITV presenter to get the boot, he has homed in on Alan Carr and Cat Burns as the two remaining Traitors. While Sherlock Holmes or Columbo may be more apt, Marler has been tipped to take on the role of 007 for his next trick. The role of the iconic British spy has been left vacant since Daniel Craig's tenure came to an end, and fans think they've finally found the right replacement. "Joe Marler for the next James Bond he's so good!!!" wrote one viewer on X after seekng the Rugby World Cup runner-up revel in his work around the castle. And another added: "Joe Marler and Nick [Mohammed] should become detectives and have their own murder mystery show like the next Poirot…" Casting directors could perhaps do worse than to choose the former British and Irish Lions tourist as their next Bond. Although people perhaps wouldn't be heading to cinemas for the reasons they would hope. Part of Marler's appeal is the frank nature in which he goes about his business, unafraid to speak his mind and make accusations. And one of Joe's old team-mates worried this could have led to the first scrap inside the castle. More specifically, Quins legend Danny Care voiced his fears Marler was going to get into it with Ross himself. That was before he successfully homed in on the host as the first Traitor to be identified and banished. Speaking on talkSPORT, Care said: "I thought last night it might be the first round table flip, and I thought he was going to whack Jonathan Ross, which I thought would be incredible because I've seen those eyes before, he was angry. But no, he's doing amazing, we're all really proud of him and he's smashing it." Care continued: "Those pearly blue eyes, they can melt you but they can also hurt you. I've seen those eyes before where he gets angry and I've seen people get quite physically hurt straight after. "I was a bit worried for a few of those celebs around the table. But no, he's also one of the smartest blokes I've ever come across. He remembers everything and I think that's the perfect way to play him." Pearly blue eyes, a photographic memory and the ability to do serious damage with nothing but his hands? Certainly sounds like 007 material. While Bond may not be the right role for him, Marler doesn't look likely to be short of opportunities coming out of the Traitor castle.
