The Celebrity Traitors star Joe Marler has confessed how heartbroken he was by the final roundtable. The rugby ace proved to be the ultimate Faithful and won over the nation with his brutal gameplay. Despite going into Thursday's final with a strong game plan to expose Traitors Alan Carr and Cat Burns , Joe was betrayed at the last minute by Nick Mohammed, who left him banished. Nick and Faithful David Olusoga were then tricked into the game ending by comedian Alan, who tearfully walked away with the full £97,500 prize pot for his chosen charity. During an appearance on Saturday Kitchen, Joe opened up about his final moments in Claudia Winkleman's murder mystery game show before the savage eviction as Nick deceived him. Joe admitted: “He didn’t stick to my plan, he went with his gut, which was a shame. “But I still was so in love with him, because that little dicky bow, his little face, the three little love hearts he put by my name… although in that moment, I was heartbroken, I was like ‘Aww’.” “I really enjoyed Nick, he’s fantastic,” he added. Reflecting on the final outcome, he declared of the ultimate Traitor Alan Carr: “What a winner.” Joe went on to say he was “nervous” at the start, joking he was convincing the other stars that he wasn’t a member of production. Recalling one conversation early on with Lucy Beaumont, he shared: “She was like, ‘What is it you do then?’ and I went, ‘Oh I play rugby,’ and she went, ‘Like rugby union or league or something like that?’ and it was quite a big moment for me because you’re in the rugby bubble and you think there’s nothing bigger. “You’re in it and it’s amazing, everyone knows rugby, but you get out of it and go in the real world, and they’re like, ‘Who are you?’ and you go, ‘Good point’, and it made me go, well who am I actually?” He also praised cast member Joe Wilkinson, with whom he developed a bromance with just days into The Celebrity Traitors. “He’s one of the funniest blokes I’ve come across, and I just fell in love with him, also really intelligent,” he said. Talking about his game-plan, Joe said that after first just trying to copy Sir Stephen Fry, his sports mindset “kicked in” and he was desperate to try and win. However, he was left second-guessing himself all the time, and reflected on one dramatic roundtable where he banished Mark Bonnar. “It’s only because I’d watched an episode of Line of Duty, and he plays the baddie in it,” he quipped. Hearing Mark say similar things to his detective character, Joe was convinced that he was a Traitor. “And I got it completely wrong, I felt so bad,” he shared. The Celebrity Traitors is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
