Joao Palhinha shares what Tottenham should try to achieve this season as new era at N17 kicks off
Joao Palhinha wants Tottenham to be consistent in the Premier League this season
Tottenham are hoping to build on their Europa League success this season under Thomas Frank. The Lilywhites defied the odds last season by winning the competition, beating Manchester United in the final. The historic achievement meant the North London club finally ended its 17-year wait for a major trophy, also etching Ange Postecoglou’s name in the history books at N17.
So, it goes without saying that Thomas Frank will feel added pressure to fill the boots of Big Ange at Spurs. It is fair to say, however, that Frank has taken that pressure in his stride and enjoyed a brilliant start to life at N17. Under the Danish tactician, the Lilywhites have won five of their opening seven games of the new season.
The former Brentford boss revealed last month that he wanted Spurs to compete on all four fronts this season. That is exactly what the Lilywhites seem to be doing, as they have already registered wins in three different competitions. Fans will now hope the North London club continue their fine form and build on their momentum.
Joao Palhinha claims Tottenham are taking each game as it comes
Tottenham fans have grown used to their club making a perfect start in the Premier League under a new manager before fading later in the season. It happened under José Mourinho, Nuno Espírito Santo and Ange Postecoglou, and it could happen again under Thomas Frank. This time, though, it feels different, as there is a clear indication the club are not getting ahead of themselves.
Summer signing Joao Palhinha has also relayed that same sentiment when he was asked about Spurs’ goals for this campaign. While speaking on the Sky Sports One podcast, Palhinha said,
“I think we have everything to do good things and achieve good things, but we also know we are competing in the most competitive league in the world, and it’s not easy because you need to be really consistent every week, and that’s the hardest thing in football. We will try to shine as a team, and we will fight for every win every single week.”
João Palhinha believes Tottenham have the ability to win everything this season. The Portugal international, however, indicates that the Lilywhites are focused on consistency in the Premier League and on taking each game as it comes under Thomas Frank. Palhinha has also promised fans that the team will give a tough fight, week in, week out, in the league as well as in other competitions.
All eyes will be on the North London club as they look to improve on last season. Anything less than a top-half finish in the Premier League, along with a good cup run, will be seen as a disappointment. Thomas Frank will need to make sure the players stay switched on at all times this season and do not become complacent as the campaign progresses.
