Jimmy Kimmel hasn’t been afraid to rock the boat since his late-night show returned to the air last week after a brief suspension.
On the Monday night broadcast of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the comedian addressed a Fox News clip of Vice President JD Vance speaking with host Laura Ingraham.
“Vice President Maybelline was making the rounds, attempting to defend his boss and the chairman of the FCC with a new fairytale even a 5-year-old wouldn’t believe,” he says in a clip from the show.
In the Fox News clip, Ingraham asks Vance what he makes of people calling Kimmel’s suspension a “first amendment assault being carried out by the FCC, Brendan Carr, and the president.”

“Well, there are two things. First of all, I’d like them to tell me exactly what Brendan Carr did to have Jimmy Kimmel taken off the air, because number one, he is currently on the air, and to the extent that he isn’t in certain stations, it’s because he’s not funny and because his ratings aren’t very good,” Vance responds.
The broadcast cuts back to Kimmel, who smiles as the studio audience boos. “I have some good news for ya, J-Dog,” he says. “We’re back on all the stations.” The crowd erupts in cheers. For context, Jimmy Kimmel Live! was still briefly preempted by conservative ownership on around 70 ABC stations after the show was reinstated.
“Every home, every bar, every strip club, and every prison in America,” Kimmel says as the cheers continue. “But, sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt your bullshit. Go on.” The broadcast cuts back to Vance on Fox News.
Vance tells Ingraham that the major US broadcast networks are supposed to serve the public interest. “That’s actually totally separate from the Jimmy Kimmel issue because nothing happened to him,” he repeats. “He’s currently on the air, and to the extent that he’s not, it’s because advertisers don’t like him because his ratings aren’t very good.”
“My ratings aren’t very good?” Kimmel fires back. “Last time I checked…”
“…Your ratings were somewhere between a hair in your salad and chlamydia,” he said, delivering the now infamous nine words.
“In three-and-a-half years, I’m not the one who’s gonna be doing mascara tutorials on YouTube,” Kimmel goes on. “How did we wind up with a president and a vice president who wear more makeup than Kylie Jenner and Lady Gaga combined?”
