Jigawa govt partners NAPTIP to combat human trafficking

The Jigawa State Government has announced its readiness to collaborate with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to curb the menace of human trafficking and irregular foreign migration through the state. This was disclosed in a press statement issued in Dutse and made available to Online Tribune by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry for Local Government, Malam Najib Umar. According to the statement, the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Hannun-Giwa, made the commitment while declaring open a one-day sensitization campaign against the evils and dangers of human trafficking in Kazaure town, Jigawa State. He reiterated that the administration of Governor Umar A. Namadi remains committed to promoting human capital development through every possible avenue of human endeavour. According to him, this can only be achieved when citizens across the 27 local government areas become self-reliant and desist from engaging in or supporting acts of human trafficking, focusing instead on opportunities within their communities. Alhaji Hannun-Giwa further stated that under the Comprehensive Development Framework of the state and local government councils, efforts are ongoing to create an enabling environment that encourages residents to explore their potential in diverse fields. This, he noted, would help generate employment and enhance the state’s internally generated revenue. Participants at the sensitization event included Heads of Community Departments, Hisbah officials, Social Welfare Officers, District Heads, Chief Imams, and members of the Vigilante Group drawn from the 12 local government areas within the Jigawa North-West Senatorial Zone.
