Jet2 has warned passengers they could face some disruption as Storm Amy brings wet and windy weather to the UK today (October 3). It comes as the Met Office has issued yellow warnings for wind and rain in northern England, parts of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The warnings come into force this afternoon, along with amber alerts for wind for Northern Ireland and Scotland. Further warnings have been issued for tomorrow, with a yellow warning for wind being extended to cover the rest of England. Forecasters warned Storm Amy is “likely to lead to some disruption later on Friday and overnight into Saturday”. The Met Office added: “Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible.” Never miss a story with the MEN’s daily Catch Up newsletter – get it in your inbox by signing up here The Met Office says “gusts of 50-60mph are likely in many areas” reaching “60-70mph in more exposed parts”. It adds that the very strong winds “will also be accompanied by spells of heavy rain.” In light of the warnings, Jet2 said it plans to operate flights as scheduled but passengers are warned of longer waits before boarding the aircraft and while waiting to depart. In a statement on its website, the airline said: “The Met Office has advised that Storm Amy is expected to bring adverse weather conditions, including strong winds to Northern parts of the UK. On Friday 3rd October to Saturday 4th October. “If you are travelling with Jet2.com during this period, we advise all customers to allow extra time to travel to the airport and check in as scheduled (our check in desks close 40 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time) and our friendly Red Teams in the terminal will keep you up to date. “We plan to operate our flights as close to schedule as possible, we will board all flights for an on-time departure, however, please be prepared for a longer than normal wait either in the terminal or onboard the aircraft to depart.” Join the Manchester Evening News WhatsApp group HERE It said that passengers whose flights are affected will be updated via text, email and the Jet2 App. The airline added:” Jet2.com would like to apologise in advance for any disruption you may experience.
