Jerry Jones Speaks on Cowboys Star's Week 3 Availability

The Dallas Cowboys pulled off an incredible 40-37 overtime victory against the New York Giants, despite allowing 450 passing yards to Russell Wilson. One of the biggest reasons they struggled to stop the play was because star cornerback DaRon Bland was out with a foot injury. Having a guy like that on one side of the field would have made things tougher for the Giants. He was expected to miss a decent amount of time, but owner Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan there is a chance Bland may play on Sunday against the Chicago Bears. However, his son Stephen said on 105.3 The Fan on Monday that Bland would probably be out in Week 3.Bland was selected with the No. 167th pick in the 2022 by Dallas, and he instantly became a star.In his rookie season, he had 54 tackles and five interceptions. As good as he was that year, he put together an all-time record in 2023.He finished that year with 69 tackles and nine interceptions, including an NFL record five that he returned for touchdowns. With Bland and Diggs on the outside, the Cowboys have one of the best duos when it comes to getting their team the ball back.Last season he didn’t have any interceptions, but he played in only seven games while also teams stopped targeting him.Jones and the Cowboys know he is a focal point of the team’s future, as they signed him to a four-year, $92 million contract on August 31.For the Cowboys, the Sooners they can get Bland back the better. With the team no longer having Micah Parsons on the team, the Cowboys aren’t getting the pressure they used to get on quarterbacks. This is making cornerbacks have to be able to guard receivers longer, and that was a big reason why Wilson and the Giants had such a big day.Up next for the Cowboys is a game against a Chicago Bears team that is coming off a 52-21 loss to the Detroit Lions. While they were blown out in the game, wide receiver Rome Odunze did have seven catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns. While having Bland back will be a huge boost for the defense, expect the Cowboys to be cautious with him. A foot injury is tough for any NFL player, but especially a cornerback who is having to guard some of the best receivers in the league. This is one where his status may not be revealed until right up at kickoff. For more on the Dallas Cowboys and the NFL, visit Newsweek Sports.
