Jerry Jones seems to make big statement about trade-deadline rumors

Numerous stories had linked the Dallas Cowboys with multiple defensive players even before the club fell to 3-4-1 via a 44-24 blowout loss at the Denver Broncos this past Sunday. During a Tuesday appearance on Dallas sports radio station 105.3 The Fan, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones acknowledged that "all options are there" regarding his team's need to improve its roster if it's going to accomplish anything of note this season. Jones also suggested he isn't close to pulling the trigger on a blockbuster move ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline. Jerry Jones has no trade in mind to improve Cowboys? "I can tell you this right now," Jones explained, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. "There is not a trade in my mind, the beginning and end of one, as we sit here and talk ... that I would do." One can't say, for sure, that Dallas would be better if the club had Green Bay Packers star pass-rusher Micah Parsons on the roster this fall. That said, ESPN stats show that the Parsons-less Cowboys ended Week 8 ranked 31st in the NFL in yards allowed per game (404.6) and 31st in points surrendered per contest (31.3). Previous stories mentioned that the Cowboys could look to land a pass-rusher such as Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders or Trey Hendrickson of the Cincinnati Bengals. The Raiders have since reportedly told Crosby he won't be traded, while the 3-5 Bengals need all the help on defense they can get if they are to remain in playoff conversations through at least November. "There hasn't been anything close to a deal," Jones said about reports linking Dallas with Crosby and Hendrickson. "...I don't know if we will or not (make a trade)." Jerry Jones keeping sense of humor despite Cowboys' disappointing record Jones also allowed himself to have some fun during Tuesday's radio segment when he was asked if Dallas could acquire a linebacker before the trade deadline. "Not necessarily," Jones responded. "Not at all. But possibly so. Now, how about that for an answer?" The current Dallas roster will attempt to produce a bounce-back performance when the Cowboys host the Arizona Cardinals (2-5) for a "Monday Night Football" game on Nov. 3. As of Tuesday morning, ESPN BET had Dallas as a 2.5-point home favorite for that matchup. Even if the Cowboys defeat the Cardinals, Jones could decide his defense isn't one player away from becoming a championship-caliber unit before the evening of Nov. 4 arrives.
