Jeremy Clarkson has admitted he is “genuinely frightened” following the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk. The former Top Gear presenter is worried about his role as a newspaper columnist following the death of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk in Utah. Clarkson took to X/Twitter to express his concerns, writing: “For the first time in my life, I’m genuinely frightened about being a newspaper columnist,” and was advised by one social media user to focus on automotive journalism instead. However, Clarkson suggested even that could pose dangers and responded: “But what if someone disagrees with my view that, say, the new M5 is a bit dull. Everyone is so angry all the time these days,” reports the Mirror . Clarkson isn’t the only British media figure to comment on Kirk’s killing as Piers Morgan said the attack was an “appalling assault on free speech and democracy”, describing it as “disgusting and heartbreaking”. Kirk rose to prominence by touring universities across America, delivering speeches on conservative politics and hosting Prove Me Wrong sessions where he would engage students in debate. As a Trump supporter, Kirk championed causes including opposition to abortion rights, anti-transgender positions, and defending Americans’ constitutional right to bear arms. Just months earlier, he had declared: “It’s worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment.” Trump paid tribute to Kirk on Truth Social, describing him as “loved and admired by all”. Authorities are currently investigating the shooting while the gunman’s identity and motives remain unclear. Have you joined Threads?
