Jean-Pierre defends stance that it was insulting to Harris that voters wanted a convention

Former President Joe Biden’s defended her stance in her new book that it was an insult to then-Vice President Kamala Harris that some Democrat voters wanted an open primary when Biden said he would drop out of the 2024 race. Jean-Pierre that was published Monday where she was asked about her new book titled “A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines.” She doubled down on her stance that Biden should have been the nominee and discussed going from being a Democrat to being an Independent. The New Yorker reporter Isaac Chotiner, asked Jean-Pierre why she thought it was an insult to Harris when some people wanted an open convention after it was announced Biden dropped out of the 2024 race and endorsed Harris. “I mean, look, you have to understand, I’m speaking also as a Black woman and what I experienced myself as being a first,” she responded. “This is not just me. There are many Black women who feel this. We are the backbone of the party. We are on the front lines, and when it comes time to elevate us, or hear us, acknowledge our voice, we are largely ignored.” She went on to say that since Harris was Biden’s vice president, she was the most qualified to be president. “It’s almost like they didn’t want her,” Jean-Pierre said. “And so you have to understand the lens that I see that with, right? I feel that very viscerally, as do many in the Black community, and among Black women.” Chotiner said that he believed that there was racism and sexism Harris faced on the campaign trail, but said he spoke to voters who believed Harris couldn’t beat President Donald Trump. He then said that in her book, Jean-Pierre wrote that she didn’t think Harris could win either. “But two things should be true, right?” she responded. “The thing that I say the second time actually proves the thing that I said the first time, right? Because it’s a feeling that we have. The reason I felt that is because of how we’re treated as Black women. We’re not elevated, we’re not protected, we’re not taken seriously. She was the vice-president for heaven’s sake.” When asked if she should give some grace to people who didn’t think Harris could win, Jean-Pierre answered, “This is a book about my experience.” Last month, Jean-Pierre was on Biden's health following allegations that White House officials were a part of covering up the truth about Biden's health.
