This week, Vice President J.D. Vance held a White House press briefing, where he argued against undocumented immigrants receiving healthcare benefits.
In a now-viral clip seen by over 5.2 million people, Vance told the press: “If you’re an American citizen and you’ve been to the hospital in the last few years, you’ve probably noticed that wait times are especially large and very often somebody who’s there in the emergency room waiting is an illegal alien.”
“Why do those people get healthcare benefits at hospitals paid for by American citizens?” Vance continued.
“The answer is a decision made by the Biden administration that the Trump administration, working with Congressional Republicans, undid. We turned off that money spiget to healthcare funding for illegal aliens. The Democrats, in their legislative text, want to turn it back on.”

“A child with a gunshot wound from a school shooting could be turned away at an emergency room under this reasoning,” another person pointed out. “Never mind that it is illegal. It is unconscionable.”
This person questioned how Vance would know which patients were “illegal aliens” while looking around a hospital room?
Another person who claimed to work as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado called long emergency room wait times a “systemic issue” that has “nothing to do with illegal aliens.”
