Jaylen Brown’s been through All-Star snubs and trade rumors, but nothing quite like this. Because JB might’ve just made the NBA’s funniest call of the year. In the middle of a livestream, Brown picked up his phone and called LeBron James for advice on Turkish hair restoration. “It’s real, chat. I’m about to call LeBron motherf—— speaker… You don’t answer. So I’m gonna leave a voicemail,” Brown joked before leaving a voicemail that instantly broke the internet. “LeBron, it’s Lil Bro. Call me back. We got some real sh– to talk about. It’s a code red… Turkey or no turkey?” Brown said, referencing hair restoration treatments abroad. He then continued, “And I ain’t talking about no cheese sandwich. It’s some real sh–, bro. Call your little bro back. Put all the other sh– in the past.” The humor hit harder given their recent history. Earlier this year, in February, Brown and LeBron had a moment, and not the good kind. During the All-Star Game, LeBron’s warm greetings skipped right over Brown, offering only a quick dap before moving on. Days later, fans resurfaced Brown’s viral summer clip, doubting Bronny James’ NBA potential. “I don’t think Bronny (James) is a pro,” he said in the clip. And by now, we know how personally offended Dad James gets when it comes to criticism of his children. The two moments formed a subtle tension that doesn’t require headlines to exist. So when Brown called LeBron James this week, it felt like a truce. Especially since Brown’s comments about Bronny never fully faded, even after his follow-up post praising LeBron’s legacy. That “call your little bro back” sounded playful, sure, but there was a realness under the punchline.
