The Thursday practice status for Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has been revealed after suffering a knee injury in the game against the Green Bay Packers last week. It was reported that Daniels missed Thursday’s practice for the Commanders’ Week 3 contest against the Las Vegas Raiders.
It’s no surprise, as Daniels also missed practice on Wednesday. Washington will have one more practice on Friday, and the team will make a determination on Daniel’s availability for the game on Sunday.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn spoke to reporters on Wednesday. Then, Quinn said Friday will be an important day for Daniels.
“Jayden had a good rehab session day,” Quinn said, per CBS Sports. “He also threw out on the field. He won’t practice today, and then as we get into Friday, I’ll give you an assessment of where we’re at after we go through practice on Friday.”
NFL insider shares thoughts on Jayden Daniels’ status for Week 3
On Wednesday night, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network gave an update on Jayden Daniels. Rapoport seemed to hint at Daniels not likely playing.
“My feel, based on talking to sources involved in this situation, is that the team will err on the side of caution if there is any doubt at all in Jayden Daniels, who is battling a knee sprain, had an MRI after the game and got checked out again,” Rapoport said. “If there is any doubt in the world, if Jayden Daniels is not 100% — do not expect him to play.
“It is a long season. This is a team that does figure to be in the hunt, figures to be there at the end. They want to make sure their young star quarterback is healthy for as long as possible.”
In two games this year, Daniels has completed 59.7 percent of his passes for 433 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for 85 yards on 18 carries. He aims to build on a 2024 season where he led the Commanders to the NFC Championship game and was named Offensive Rookie of the Year.
After the Packers game, Daniels reacted to the Commanders losing their first game of the year. “I wouldn’t expect anyone in this locker room to hit the panic button,” Daniels said, per Commanders.com. “We faced a really good team, and we came up short. So, we’re moving on to the next game.”
