Jay Ellis Cast In Hulu's 'Not Suitable For Work'

EXCLUSIVE: Jay Ellis (Insecure, Top Gun: Maverick) has joined the series regular cast of Mindy Kaling’s upcoming Hulu comedy series Not Suitable For Work. He joins the previously announced Ella Hunt, Avantika, Will Angus, Jack Martin, and Nicholas Duvernay.
Not Suitable for Work follows five work-obsessed twentysomethings striving for professional success and, if they have time, personal happiness in Manhattan’s most glamorous neighborhood, Murray Hill.
Ellis has been cast as Bill Gibson, a charismatic, successful investment banker who is admired for being his firm’s highest-earning managing director.
The previously announced actor and the roles they will play are as follows: Hunt as AJ Pascarelli, a first-year analyst at a prestigious investment bank in New York; Avantika as Abhinaya “Abby” Chilukuri, a savvy assistant to a demanding celebrity stylist; Angus as Davis Beau Bradley Barrett III, a finance bro who wants to love and be loved; Martin as Josh Teitelbaum, a bright, idealistic and occasionally sanctimonious New Yorker; and Duvernay as Kel Washington, a medical student struggling to ace his exams while plotting his big break as an actor.
Kaling created Not Suitable for Work and executive produces with showrunner Charlie Grandy and 3 Arts Entertainment’s Howard Klein. Kaling International produces the series in association with Warner Bros. Television, where both Kaling and Grandy are under overall deals.
Ellis is an actor, producer, director, and writer known for HBO’s Emmy-winning series Insecure and the Paramount Pictures hit film Top Gun: Maverick. He most recently starred in Netflix’s Running Point and Lionsgate’s Freaky Tales, and will next appear in Peacock’s All Her Fault. An NAACP Image Award winner, Ellis also heads Black Bar Mitzvah, his production company behind Amazon’s Black Box and projects at major networks including Hulu, HBO, and Netflix. He is repped by UTA, Entertainment 360, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman.
