After the release of Black Rabbit, actor Jason Bateman shared how he prepared for the intense action sequences in the show. Released on Netflix on September 18, the 56-year-old actor’s character fights off aggressive loan sharks and navigates a tense family situation. The crime thriller, created by Zach Baylin and Kate Susman, also features Jude Law in a lead role.
“No specific training, but lots of stretching,” Jason told People at the show’s premiere in New York when asked if he underwent any special training to prepare for the show. He further joked, “Us old-timers need to make sure everything’s loosened up.”
Jude Law Calls Jason Bateman “Funny And Smart”
At the premiere, Jason’s co-star Jude Law shared his first impressions of working with him. “Honestly, for about a year and a half, we only met on Zoom when we were in the writing room or taking notes and giving notes on the scripts as they were being developed,” the 52-year-old actor said. But once he began filming with his co-star, he found him “incredibly astute [and] funny.” Praising Jason for giving “great notes”, Jude added, “I knew he would be funny and smart. He’s very Jason Bateman.”
Previously, at the Toronto International Film Festival, where Black Rabbit premiered, Jude described working with Jason as similar to playing a sport. “It’s very hard to describe. It’s like you’re playing a sport, but you’re not trying to beat the other person, but you’re trying to raise their game,” he explained.
Black Rabbit: Plot And Cast
Black Rabbit is set in New York City and follows the story of two brothers, played by Jude Law and Jason Bateman. While Jake Friedken (Law) is the charismatic owner of the titular restaurant, Vince Friedken (Bateman) is the troublemaker brother who returns with a $140,000 debut hanging over his head. The synopsis of the eight-episode show teases it as “a propulsive thrill ride and character examination about the way an unbreakable bond between two brothers can shatter their world — and everything in its orbit.”
Besides Jude and Jason, the show also stars Troy Kotsur, Amaka Okafor, Cleopatra Coleman, Gus Birney, Morgan Spector, Odessa Young and more. Jason Bateman also executive produces the series with his partner, Michael Costigan, under Aggregate Films, alongside Jude Law, with Ben Jackson for Riff Raff Entertainment.
Following his role in Black Rabbit, Jason Bateman will voice the character Nick Wilde in Zootopia 2 and will appear in the HBO series DTF St. Louis. Meanwhile, Jude Law has The Wizard of the Kremlin in the pipeline.
