Japan strengthens Ghana’s primary healthcare with $7,000 Tseldom CHPS project

A $7,000 Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound has been commissioned in Tseldom, a community in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region, to expand access to basic healthcare services. The facility, funded by the Government and people of Japan, was initiated by the Eastern Regional School Health Education Programme (SHEP) Coordinator, Godfried Ofoe-Caesar, after an outbreak of yaws among schoolchildren in the area. Speaking at the inauguration, Yamoto Mizuki, First Secretary at the Embassy of Japan, said the project reflects Japan’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s primary healthcare system. “The CHPS compound is a symbol of friendship between Japan and Ghana. We are glad to contribute to improving healthcare delivery in this community”, she said. Health officials say the new compound will provide essential services including maternal care, family planning, and health education for Tseldom and nearby communities. Eastern Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Damien, urged residents to maintain the facility to ensure its sustainability. The maternity block was named after Ofoe-Caesar, who expressed gratitude for Japan’s assistance, saying the project would “go a long way to improve the health and wellbeing of our people.” Asaase Broadcasting Company airs on Asaase 99.5 Accra, Asaase 98.5 Kumasi, Asaase 99.7 Tamale, Asaase 100.3 Cape Coast, AsaasePa 107.3 (Accra).
