World No. 2 Jannik Sinner has spoken out on Carlos Alcaraz's unexpected defeat at the Paris Masters , which ended his streak of nine consecutive finals before losing to Britain's Cameron Norrie . The shock 6-4, 3-6, 4-6 elimination in the French capital on Tuesday has paved the way for Sinner to snatch back the No. 1 ranking from Alcaraz - a position he lost after being defeated by the Spaniard in the US Open final in September. If Sinner clinches the title in Paris, he will once again be at the top. The Italian ace has advanced to the semi-finals following victories over Zizou Bergs, Francisco Cerundolo and Ben Shelton. The reigning Australian Open and Wimbledon champion is set to face Alexander Zverev on Saturday afternoon for a spot in Sunday's final - against either Alexander Bublik or Felix Auger-Aliassime. And Sinner has now shared his thoughts on Alcaraz's earlier loss this week, which would have given him an extra push to win the title in Paris. He also commented on the playing conditions at the La Defense Arena. "The playing conditions are completely different from those in Vienna. For me, the most difficult thing is the movement," he said, as reported by L'Equipe. "There are new balls, which travel slower. We'll see how it goes." Discussing Alvarez, Sinner added: "It's a difficult tournament, we saw that with Carlos' elimination. It's the end of the season. "The conditions are unique here. I've never played well here. Every match is difficult. I'm focusing on what I have to do." Sinner is set to conclude his season at the ATP finals in Turin, kicking off on November 9. Despite potentially clinching the title in Paris, the 24-year-old will relinquish the world No.1 ranking to Alcaraz before the season-ending tournament, as he'll lose the 1500 points he bagged from last year's victory. However, if Sinner triumphs as an undefeated champion in Italy for the second year running, Alcaraz would have to gather 450 points at the ATP Finals to finish the year as No. 1. In this case, Alcaraz would need to make it to the final with at least one group stage victory or remain unbeaten in group stage play. Neither player has any matches lined up in the week leading up to the ATP finals, but Alcaraz is set to participate in the Davis Cup finals once the Turin tournament wraps up on 16 November. On the other hand, Sinner has chosen to skip the event as Italy aim for a third consecutive title. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
