Jamual John reigns supreme at Victor Macedo 65-Mile Memorial Road Race

Under early morning skies, the sun burst through the Queenstown trees as the 2025 Victor Macedo Memorial Road Race got underway launched from the historic Peter Rose Avenue in what was a fitting start to a day of high-octane racing and fierce competition.
In true form, Jamual John, a crowd favourite and dominant force on the national circuit, turned up the heat both figuratively and literally, clinching overall victory in the Elite category. Battling punishing crosswinds and sweltering temperatures over the 104.6 km (65-mile) course, John demonstrated unmatched form and endurance, once again affirming his reputation as the man to beat on Guyana’s roads.
Hot on his wheel, seasoned campaigner Robin Persaud crossed the line in second, edging out a strong field of challengers. Curtis Day claimed third, followed closely by Paul De Nobrega, with both riders delivering solid performances under grueling conditions.
In the Junior category, Alexander Leung launched an early breakaway and never looked back, controlling the tempo from the front and storming to another title as he powered down the Liliendaal Homestretch. Alex Newton and Omarie Abrams battled hard to secure second and third place respectively, rounding out a thrilling youth contest.
Veteran Robin Persaud doubled up on accolades by also taking top honours in the Masters Over-45 category, proving his excellence at a more mature age. Meanwhile, the Masters Over-50 division saw commanding rides from Mark Spencer and Junior Niles, who finished first and second respectively, setting the pace for their age group.
The Juvenile division was electric, with Dinesh Sookai delivering a spirited ride to take top honours. Kevon Stephen, despite a strong start, faded midway and was unable to maintain the pace.
In Category Four, it was business as usual for Carlos Mendonca, who executed another tactically flawless ride to secure yet another first-place trophy.
The event, expertly organized by the Flying Stars Cycling Club, once again served as a showcase of grit, talent, and community spirit. In a post-race statement, the club extended its appreciation:
“A special thank you goes out to the sponsors, the Guyana Police Force, the race officials, the cyclists, and all those who tuned in to the live coverage and supported this memorable event. Your contributions made today’s race a resounding success.”
Generous sponsorship was once again provided by Macedo Transportation, continuing the proud tradition of honouring the late Victor Macedo’s legacy through elite-level road racing.
