Jake Paul’s proposed fight against Gervonta Davis will still go ahead on November 14, but it will no longer be in Atlanta, Georgia.
Influencer boxing has soared to the forefront of the sport, with each year seemingly getting more bizarre. After fighting and beating fan-favorite Mike Tyson last year, ‘The Problem Child’ decided to heighten the competition for his next bout, but severely lower the size.
For his upcoming clash in the ring, Jake Paul has come to an agreement with Gervonta Davis—though not everybody is accepting of the fight.
While the green light was seemingly given for the event to go ahead, that has since changed. According to reports, the Georgia Athletic Entertainment Commission, like many fans and fighters have suggested, couldn’t accept the weight discrepancy between the two participants.
Rick Thompson, the Georgia Athletic Entertainment Commission chairman, spoke out against the exhibition bout.
“This is the dumbest [sh*t] I’ve ever heard,” Thompson told USA Today. “It’s a money grabber, and I’m not OK with that.”
“I’m going to make my biggest case that this is no good.”
Further reports suggest Jake Paul and his team advertised the fight in the city without the permission of the Georgia Athletic Entertainment Commission. This lead to extra comments from Rick Thompson.
“I believe it’s in the public’s interest to know that because they’ve been promoting something they should not have been. They probably evaluated a situation [and] knew that their weight differences were too much.”
Despite doubts still surrounding his name, Jake Paul is known for his ability to shut the lights out on his opponents. Paul’s transition from a YouTube prankster to a certified professional boxer has been an eventful one for all to watch, and there’s likely much more to follow.
While Gervonta Davis is also known for his devastating power in the ring, the difference between the two is in their size.
Duing his last outing in a unanimous decision victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Paul hit the scales at 200lbs. This means he weighed in a staggering 65lbs heavier than his next opponent Davis.
Alongside the weight, there is a seven inch height difference between the pair.
