Last weekend, history was made at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, streamed live on Netflix, as Terence Crawford defied the odds to defeat Canelo Alvarez. In doing so, he became the first male boxer in the four-belt era to claim undisputed status across three weight divisions. The achievement immediately dominated headlines, cementing itself as the talk of the sporting world. And just days later, Netflix has made the celebrations even bigger.
Netflix released the official numbers from the Canelo–Crawford showdown, and they’re staggering. The fight drew an estimated AMA total of 41.4 million viewers worldwide, making it the most-watched men’s championship boxing match of the century. In the U.S. alone, 20.3 million tuned in, while a record-breaking crowd of 70,482 packed the stadium, generating more than $47 million at the gate. Faced with its success, Jake Paul couldn’t resist inserting himself.

Jake Paul takes a subtle jab
‘The Problem Child,’ who faced Mike Tyson last November on Netflix and even approached Canelo Alvarez earlier this year for a fight, took to Instagram to stir the pot. Sharing an Instagram post from his promotional outfit, Most Valuable Promotions, on his story, Paul compared the numbers from his own fight—along with the co-main event between Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor—directly against the blockbuster Canelo–Crawford showdown.
According to the post, Paul vs. Tyson drew a staggering AMA of 125 million viewers while the Serrano–Taylor rematch reached an estimated 74 million, both eclipsing the reported AMA of 41 million for Canelo–Crawford. The caption read, “Congratulations to Netflix on setting viewership records for most-watched fights this century since airing their 1st live professional sporting event in November of 2024. Live sports have changed forever.”

Still, while Paul–Tyson may have outshone in raw viewership, its gate revenue fell well short. The event generated $17.8 million from over 70,000 fans, compared to Canelo–Crawford’s massive $47 million live gate. Earlier this year, Canelo was even in talks to face Paul, but those plans evaporated when Alvarez signed a four-fight deal with His Excellency Turki Alalshikh — paving the way for the Terence Crawford clash.
As for Jake Paul, he’s now set to face Gervonta Davis in an exhibition fight on November 14, once again live on Netflix. Regardless, this isn’t the first time ‘El Gallo’ has spoken about the Canelo-Crawford fight.
Paul shared a brutal response to Canelo Alvarez losing to Terence Crawford
After the fight result was announced, Jake Paul didn’t mince words. Having already been betrayed by the Mexican superstar, the Cleveland native had a brutal response to Canelo’s loss to Crawford. “Canelo putting his hand up like he won lol dumb**** lying weirdo Canelo been overrated,” Paul wrote on X, mocking Alvarez’s reaction after the loss.

This also became his opportunity to take shots at his critics, who pointed out the massive weight difference between him and Gervonta Davis in their upcoming exhibition. “‘Weight classes are there for a reason?’” Paul posted sarcastically. Notably, Paul is a cruiserweight and Gervonta Davis is a lightweight—the difference is far greater than Crawford’s two-weight move.
That being said, it appears Jake Paul is taking full advantage of Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford’s success to get his own name in the limelight. However, it’s yet to be seen whether his exhibition against Davis can surpass Canelo-Crawford. Do you think it’s possible?
