A man who faked the kidnapping of his infant son has pleaded guilty to the baby’s murder. Yesterday, Riverside County officials confirmed Jake Haro had entered three guilty pleas after being charged with murder, filing a false police report and endangerment of a child. It comes two months after seven-month-old Emmanuel was last seen alive , with officers continuing in their desperate search to find his remains. Emmanuel’s mother, Rebecca, was also arrested on suspicion of murder and false reporting charges, but it’s unknown if she has yet entered a plea. On August 14, it was Rebecca who reported her son had been kidnapped just before 8pm from a car park outside a sports store in Yucaipa, which is around 10 miles east of San Bernardino, California. In her testimony, which investigators now say is false, she said: “I took him out of the car seat and I laid him on the chair, and I had his diapers right here. Someone said ‘Hola,’ and I couldn’t even turn and … I don’t remember nothing.” Rebecca alleged that she awoke to find her son had been snatched, and was initially believed thanks to the large black eye she claimed to have sustained in the attack. However, it didn’t take long before inconsistencies in Rebecca’s narrative caused issues for investigators before the couple started distancing themselves and eventually stopped providing assistance. On August 22, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department released a statement saying deputies felt “a kidnapping in Yucaipa did not occur”. The statement said: “It is believed Emmanuel is deceased and the search to recover his remains is ongoing.” Within hours, the couple were both arrested on suspicion of murder. Two days later, Jake was allowed to leave jail briefly to assist police in the search for his remains. Officials believe Emmanuel was killed several days before Rebecca made the reports. His last confirmed sighting was on August 5, PEOPLE reports.
