Jadon Sancho considering shock return to club in 2026

Jadon Sancho seemed to be on the path to be one of the top talents in the world with his impressive rise at Borussia Dortmund, hoewever this ended with his arrival at Manchester United. The winger became a fan favourite in Germany with goals, assists and Champions League nights that put him among Europe’s most exciting young wide players before making the move to Old Trafford. His Manchester United spell never settled. A public bust-up with Erik ten Hag saw him not only dropped from the team, but exiled to Dortmund as the club turned to loans to try and restart his form to offload their unwanted man. A return to Borussia Dortmund reminded everyone of the old spark in flashes, a subsequent stint at Chelsea didn’t bring consistency, and the current spell at Aston Villa has been a struggle for rhythm and minutes. Across competitions for Aston Villa he has seven appearances, no goals, no assists and only 317 minutes, showing how he has struggled to find a place under Unai Emery. Now BILD has reported that Borussia Dortmund are continuously monitoring Sancho’s situation and weighing up conditions for a move, while the player is considering a return. If Aston Villa decide to terminate the player’s loan spell despite there being no break clause, this could be as soon as January, or in the summer window if the former England international remains at Villa Park. From Manchester United’s side, the impact is minimal to their current set-up. Under Ruben Amorim the club have already made the strategic decision to cut their losses at the end of the season, with Sancho set to leave on a free when his contract expires. As such, any movement around Dortmund does not affect Amorim’s planning or the first-team build at Old Trafford. Dortmund’s case is straightforward. Sancho knows the environment, the staff know how to use him, and the fanbase already buys into him. If the financials and squad fit make sense, a reunion offers a cleaner route back to form than trying to reset at yet another new club. For Jadon Sancho, the report suggests that he knows a move back to his former Bundesliga club is the only chance of reigniting his form, with the attacker reportedly considering a pay-cut to make the move. However, as Niko Kovac doesn’t use traditional wingers, similarly to Ruben Amorim, and the winger is far off his pace that saw him achieve his initial success with the club, we’ll have to wait and see if anything materialises.
