Jacob Elordi Calls Out Prudish Saltburn Critics

Jacob Elordi Called Out "Prudish" Reactions To That One "Saltburn" Bathtub Scene, And He Made A Really Valid Point Clock it, Jacob. Jacob Elordi is calling out the "prudish" reaction to the Saltburn bathtub scene, and he makes a really great point. In a talk with Entertainment Weekly's Awardist podcast, the Frankenstein star reflected on the shocking bathtub scene in Emerald Fennell's 2023 Saltburn. In the movie, Oliver Quick (played by Barry Keoghan) slurped and sucked up bathwater straight from the drain after spying on Felix Catton (Jacob) masturbating in the tub. Jacob thinks the over-the-top reactions to the bathtub scene are a reflection of people being prudes when it comes to sex in movies, and I agree. However, I should make it crystal clear that I'm biased, given that this particular movie is one of my favorites and my birthday was Saltburn-themed last year. The signature cocktail for my party was Felix's bathwater in actual bathtubs, so...there's that. When asked if the "bathtub stuff" from Saltburn was embarrassing or a badge of honor, here's what Jacob said: "I actually think it shows me just how, I guess, prudish we are because when I watch that, I just think there's far more extreme things in cinema that I've seen, far more graphic." Jacob suggested that general audiences are okay with violence in media, but somehow, when it comes to sexual content like the Saltburn scene, it's suddenly too far. "There's more alarming things in the top 10 streamed remakes of crime documentaries on every streaming platform," he said. "I think that's much more alarming, the kind of horrible joy that we all get from watching children be mutilated. That's what was interesting to me." The Euphoria star was fascinated by how people reacted to the bathtub scene. "I was like, here's a piece of fiction with something just a little taboo, and that makes people's skin crawl. It's an interesting parallel." To be fair, I basically forgot about the bathtub scene by the time Oliver was humping headstones and dancing around the house butt-naked. But, Jacob makes a valid point that movies and TV shows that glorify murder, serial killers, and violence are everywhere. Yet, if there's a show like Minx that shows a prosthetic penis, everybody freaks out. Now, I want to hear from you. What's a scandalous, lewd, or shocking sexual movie scene left you speechless or squirming in your seat? Share your responses in the comments or use this anonymous form.
