JACKSON, MI – Voters living in Ward 3 have selected Incumbent Angelita V. Gunn to continue serving on Jackson City Council. On Tuesday, Nov. 4, Gunn received 261 votes defeating her opponent Jeromy Alexander, who received 200 votes, according to Jackson County election results. Gunn was born and raised in Jackson and was elected to serve the city’s Third Ward in 2021. She serves as deputy director with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Victim Services. Her top priorities in office will be crime prevention and neighborhood engagement, affordable street resurfacing and sustaining the momentum of the 100 Homes Project, according to a questionnaire from MLive/The Jackson Citizen Patriot. The race is nonpartisan, meaning the candidates are not running under political party affiliations. Ward 3 covers the northeast corner of the city. This is the last city of Jackson election cycle in an odd-numbered year. In 2023, City Council voted to switch the city’s elections to even-numbered years to go along with presidential and gubernatorial elections, increase voter turnout and reduce election costs. Those elected in 2025 will serve five-year terms on the City Council instead of the standard four years so these offices can adjust to even-numbered year elections.
