J.J. McCarthy Facing Another Injury

The health of J.J. McCarthy has been an area of major concern for the Vikings in his short career thus far. As we all know, McCarthy missed his entire rookie season due to a torn meniscus he suffered in the first week of the 2024 pre-season. Fast forward to 2025, he was healthy for the beginning of the year. That didn’t last long, as he suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 2 on Sunday Night Football at home against the Atlanta Falcons. This hindrance kept the young signal caller out through Week 9. Upon his return, he walked into Ford Field and took down the Detroit Lions on the road. This game rekindled a lot of hope into even the most pessimistic Vikings fan. Week 10 wasn’t as kind to McCarthy and the Vikings. On their home turf. they were defeated by the Baltimore Ravens in a game they needed to win to get back to a positive record. The loss wasn’t the only way that last Sunday was unkind to the Vikings, as J.J. McCarthy is now facing yet another injury. J.J. McCarthy Injures Throwing Hand Against Ravens CBS Sports has the scoop on McCarthy’s hand injury: “McCarthy hit his right hand on a Baltimore defender’s helmet while following through on a pass during this past Sunday’s loss to the Ravens, but he didn’t miss a snap, completed 20 of 42 passes for 248 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions and rushed five times for 48 yards. Alec Lewis of The Athletic reported Wednesday that McCarthy has some swelling on the hand in question, but there’s been no indication that he’s in danger of missing Sunday’s contest against the Bears.” CBS Sports explains the injury to Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy ESPN’s Kevin Seifert reported a little bit more detail: “J.J. McCarthy did most of his presser with his hands in the hoodie pocket. He said he hit his right hand on a helmet on the incomplete throw to Justin Jefferson in the end zone in the third quarter. Said he definitely felt it but not an excuse for inaccurate passes.” ESPN’s Kevin Seifert detailing McCarthy’s hand injury Will Ragatz reported that “McCarthy compared it today to getting “your hand slammed in a car door” and said he felt it the rest of the game, but he isn’t concerned about his availability this week.” Kevin Seifert also reported that J.J. McCarthy was at practice with his right-hand padded and throwing balls around with his left hand. McCarthy was limited in practice today as to not aggravate the injury. Luckily, this injury is not seen as severe and likely does not jeopardize his chances to play this coming Sunday. This is good news for Vikings fans, as they will be able to continue to watch his development. It does have to be annoying, though, seeing the kid face so many injuries in such a short time.
