J. Henry Stuhr Remembers and Honors the Sacrifice

Over the years, Stuhr Funeral Home has been proud to honor the men and women who have served our country and contributed so greatly to our communities. As Veterans Day approaches on November 11, we take special pride in celebrating the seven members of our own team with military backgrounds - along with the more than 15 million Americans who have worn the uniform in service to our nation. “Employing veterans enriches our team with discipline, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence. Their ability to adapt, lead, or follow is an asset to our team. Our veterans bring a welcome sense of patriotism to all they do,” says Catherine Stuhr, chief operating officer. For more than a decade Stuhr Funeral Home has also hosted students from James B. Edwards Elementary School in Mount Pleasant as they place flags on the graves of veterans at the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens cemetery as a symbol of respect and honor. In addition, staff at Stuhr Funeral Home educates the children about what a veteran is, what is means to be one, and why everyone should take time to honor them. Stuhr Funeral Home also partners with the Fisher House Charleston, a local organization for the families of veterans who are receiving care at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System. The Fisher House Foundation allows military and veteran families to stay free of charge while their loved one is in the hospital. The Lowcountry is hosting several events to commemorate veterans. The Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System will host its 25th Annual Veterans Day Parade on Sunday, November 2nd, at 1 p.m. in downtown Charleston. The City of North Charleston will host their annual Veterans Day tribute on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center. In Mount Pleasant, Patriots Point will recognize Veterans Day and host a donation to support Operation Homefront. In addition, you can also support the veteran community by hanging an American flag on your porch, writing a letter to a veteran, or donating to a local organization, such as The Fisher House Charleston.
