These 5 products have transformed my sleep for the better

As the Sleep Features Editor for Tom’s Guide, I’ve tested my fair share of products that are supposed to help me sleep better.

From some of the best mattresses of the year to advanced sleep-tracking tech, some have been instrumental in helping me sleep well while others have actually made it worse (I don’t recommend mouth tape to anyone.)
I’ve rounded up the five that have impressed me most so far and transformed my sleep for the better. Plus, I’ve included the best deals available for each product in the current mattress sales so you should be able to snap up a bargain.

The five best sleep products I’ve tested so far
1. YnM Bamboo Weighted Blanket
A cozy, fall staple, a weighted blanket is the perfect addition to your sleep set up — especially if you experience nighttime anxiety. I was worried having so much weight around me would feel claustrophobic or lead to sleeping hot, so I tried a specialist ‘cooling’ blanket from YnM.

This blanket is my favorite sleep product I’ve tested so far because of how calm it makes me feel in the evening. The sensation of using a weighted blanket helps my mind and body to relax.
Many studies have proven the benefit of weighted blankets for nervous system regulation and alleviating insomnia, and I certainly find it helps me fall asleep faster. I didn’t necessarily sleep with it on all night, but I do reach for it most evenings.

YnM Cooling Weighted Blanket: from $74.90 at Amazon
Made from 100% rayon derived from bamboo, this blanket is cool, moisture wicking and breathable — perfect for improving your sleep hygiene. Like the best weighted blankets, you can expect even weight distribution and no bunching thanks to the 2×2″ squares. YnM suggest you opt for a weight that’s 10% of your body weight, so I chose the 15lbs option which is currently $74.90.

2. Alpine Silence Earplugs
One of my biggest sleep problems is waking up at night. Living in a city and sleeping next to a snoring husband means I find it almost impossible to sleep through the night.

And yes, I’ve tried foam earplugs. But between the pain in my ears and the constant falling out, I think they made the problem even worse.
So when I tried the Alpine Silence Earplugs, made from soft silicone with an arrow shape, I felt like I had hit the jackpot.
The material is super soft, but it’s still effective at blocking out a lot of noise (I couldn’t even hear my husband speaking to me.) The arrow design means they fit snug within the ear — so much so that I woke up the next morning and they were both still fitted comfortably.
They’re an incredibly affordable sleep hack and one that I use most nights now.

Alpine Silence Earplugs: was $24.95 now $12.45 at Amazon
Each pair of Alpine Silence Earplugs come with four different sized tips to fit different sized ears, as well as a portable carry case to keep them safe. Offering 22dB of noise reduction, you’re guaranteed a quieter, more peaceful night’s sleep. Right now, they’re at their lowest price at just $12.45 (was $24.95).

3. Birch Luxe natural mattress
A luxury mattress is a truly indulgent sleep product, but also arguably one of the most important. After all, you could invest in all the best sleep accessories available, but if you’re not comfortable and supported throughout the night, you’re likely to wake up.
I’ve tested a fair few mattresses now. Some luxury and some affordable. My favorite so far is the Birch Luxe Natural mattress. Made from super high-quality, sustainable and organic materials like wool, cotton and latex, I found the support was really impressive.

While it’s not necessarily ‘firm’, I didn’t sink into it like softer, memory foam mattresses. This meant my body stayed aligned all night and I could change positions easily throughout the night (great for someone who tosses and turns all night).
As a side sleeper, the Euro-top made from three layers of wool cradled my hips, shoulders and knees just enough to relieve pressure, but not enough to feel like I was being hugged by the mattress (a personal ick of mine).
I was able to get comfortable straight away on the mattress and stay comfortable right until the morning, when I woke refreshed, pain-free and happy.

Birch Luxe Natural mattress: twin was $1,624 now $1,185.52 at Birch
Now rated as one of this year’s best organic mattresses, the Birch is a fantastic option for side and back sleepers looking for high-quality, natural luxury. Made from layers of natural wool, GOTS-certified cotton and GOLS-certified latex, it has a supportive and slightly bouncy feel that keeps sleepers elevated throughout the night. Right now there’s 27% off with the code TOMS27 which brings a queen down to $1,915.52 (was $2,624). You’ll also get a 100-night sleep trial, forever warranty and free shipping.

4. Samsung Galaxy Ring
I used to have pretty poor sleep hygiene. From eating late at night to working in my bed, it was no wonder sleep was hard to come by.
To motivate myself to start prioritizing my rest, I tried the Galaxy Smart Ring. This discreet wearable device measures everything from heart rate and blood oxygen levels to how long it took to fall asleep and the sleep stages I experienced.
The level of detail in the analysis was impressive. I could find out exactly when I fell asleep, the amount of deep sleep I experienced and how well rested I was likely to feel in the morning.
It helped me keep a consistent sleep schedule and encouraged me to achieve better sleep scores. The benefit it had to my wellness cannot be understated.

Samsung Galaxy Ring: from $399 at Samsung
Available in three different colors, Titanium Silver, Titanium Gold and Titanium Black, the Samsung Galaxy Ring is a sleek-looking ring that measures your key health stats from your finger. Paired with the Smart Ring app and you can get daily insights into your sleep health. Every color is currently $399 at Samsung. Read our full Samsung Galaxy Ring review to find out more.

5. Side sleeper body pillow
As a side sleeper, I toss and turn from side to side all night, trying to get comfortable without twisting my spine too much.
However, body pillows are designed to relieve the pressure on the lower back by elevating your leg slightly. By cuddling the pillow, you keep your spine in perfect alignment.

I tried a cooling body pillow from Simba and my sleep immediately improved. Using the pillow, I stayed in one position throughout the night.
I also didn’t need to bunch up the duvet between my knees (a habit I do to feel more aligned), which can trap heat.
The result was a cool and comfortable sleep night long.

Coop Sleep Goods Adjustable Body Pillow: from $99 at Coop
While the Simba pillow I tried isn’t available in the US, this Coop Adjustable Body Pillow looks just as good.. The ability to change the loft of the pillow by adding or removing fill means it’ll suit different body types and sleep styles. Plus the fill itself is made from a blend of medium-firm memory foam and microfiber for extra pressure relief at the knees. It’s currently $99 at Coop, but we have seen a 20% discount applied before during major sales — so it might be worth waiting for Black Friday.
