Singer-songwriter and actress IU has once again proved why she is not only admired for her music and acting but also for her generosity. To celebrate the 17th anniversary of her debut, IU donated 200 million KRW (approximately Rs 1.2 crore) on behalf of her fans, continuing her tradition of marking milestones with meaningful charitable acts. IU’s huge donation to charitable causes On September 18, her agency EDAM Entertainment announced that IU made the donation under the name ‘IUENA’ – a mix of her name and that of her fandom, UAENA. This symbolic gesture showed her appreciation and love for fans who have supported her throughout her career. The total contribution was divided equally among four organisations, each receiving 50 million KRW (around Rs 31 lakh). These included the Korea Foundation for Persons with Disabilities, Make-A-Wish Korea, the Heart to Heart Foundation, and the Korea Senior Citizens Support Foundation. The funds will be used to support children with critical illnesses, people with disabilities, young adults preparing for independent life, and elderly individuals living alone. She has consistently donated on special occasions such as debut anniversaries, birthdays, and holidays, often under the IUENA name. Earlier this year, she donated 200 million KRW to assist wildfire recovery efforts in the Gyeongsang region and improve conditions for firefighters. In May, she contributed 150 million KRW in celebration of Children’s Day, followed by another 200 million KRW donation on her birthday to support vulnerable communities. Alongside her philanthropic efforts, IU continues to keep her fans engaged with her artistic work. She recently surprised fans with the release of her single “Bye, Summer” on September 10. Currently, she is filming her upcoming drama 21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife and was also recently seen in the global hit K-drama When Life Gives You Tangerines.
