ITV The 1% Club winner gives hilarious reason for applying after walking away with £10,000s

A Welsh man took home a huge cash prize on the latest episode of ITV's The 1% Club after explaining his comical reason for applying for the show. Lewis Thomas joined the other 99 contestants hoping to win a cash prize of up to £100,000 on the game show hosted by comedian, Lee Mack. Making it to the last question that only 1% of people are supposedly able to answer, Lewis was joined by four other contestants hoping to win some money. The 1% question given to the hopefuls was: “If you are careful to dot all the small Is and cross all the small Ts, how many crosses on the small Ts and dots on the small Is are there in this particular sentence?” Welshman Lewis was the only one of the group to guess the correct answer, 14, and therefore he took home a whopping £98,000 all by himself. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter ITV describe the show as "the ultimate leveller of a quiz show where it doesn't matter if you're not usually good at quizzes because the questions are all about logic and common sense." Whilst many people have different reasons for applying for the show, Lewis explained to the host that it was a burger that confirmed his decision. When asked by Lee Mack why he applied, Lewis responded: "Bit of a funny story so I was always thinking of coming on the show, then one day I was in McDonalds's eating a Big Mac and the show was on my mind so I was thinking - Big Mac, Lee Mack. Let’s just go for it. Then I just applied." Smiling, the comedian quipped back: “If a two pence piece would have fallen off, Tipping Point." To which Lewis agreed through laughter. The brand new series of The 1% Club hosted by funnyman Lee Mack, aired on ITV on Saturday, October 11 and Lewis' success aired on October 25. The whole series is available to air on ITVX now.
