Good Morning Britain star Richard Arnold has paid tribute to "true legend" Prunella Scales . The Fawlty Towers actress, who was best known for playing hotel manager Sybil Fawlty in the classic British sitcom alongside John Cleese , died aged 93, her family confirmed on Tuesday. Her sons Samuel and Joseph shared in a statement that she had died "peacefully at home in London". They also shared that she had been watching Fawlty Towers the day before she died. Opening the entertainment segment on Good Morning Britain , Richard paid tribute to Prunella after host Ed Balls called her a "true legend". "We have lost a true legend from the world of entertainment," Ed said, with Richard agreeing: "We have indeed." He continued: "The world of showbiz has come together to paid tribute to actress Prunella Scales, Pru as she was affectionately known by those close to her." He went on: "She was of course best known for playing hotel manager Sybil Fawlty, the long-suffering and domineering wife of Basil, played by John Cleese in the classic British sitcom Fawlty Towers." After a clip of one of her iconic sitcom scenes aired, Charlotte Hawkins commented: "Just brilliant, wasn't she?" Richard continued: "Two series, just 12 episodes, and so iconic. Tributes have been pouring in for Pru." He concluded: "Remembering Prunella Scales, who died yesterday." Ed added: "She had dementia at the end of her life, and for the family that would have been so hard, dementia is so hard, you feel as though you're losing the person. "But at this moment, we are celebrating the Prunella Scales of her whole life and whole career, it's not the Prunella Scales at the end of her life, but everything she achieved, and for the family, that's a really positive thing." Charlotte added: "It's lovely and just looking back and seeing her in her absolute glory in her Fawlty Towers days, and just that character that she played and how phenomenally she did it, that's why there's so much love and affection for her." This comes after Basil Fawlty actor John paid tribute to his on-screen wife. He shared in a statement: “How very sad. Pru was a really wonderful comic actress. I’ve recently been watching a number of clips of Fawlty Towers whilst researching a book. Scene after scene she was absolutely perfect.” He added: “She was a very sweet lady, who spent a lot of her life apologising. I used to tease her about it. I was very, very fond of her.” The statement confirming the news of her death, shared with PA News Agency, read: "Although dementia forced her retirement from a remarkable acting career of nearly 70 years, she continued to live at home. She was watching Fawlty Towers the day before she died. "Pru was married to Timothy West for 61 years. He died in November 2024. She is survived by two sons and one stepdaughter, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren." It concluded: "We would like to thank all those who gave Pru such wonderful care at the end of her life: her last days were comfortable, contented and surrounded by love."
