In a statement on Wednesday, Carroll says the reforms will lift standards and ensure every student has a highly qualified teacher.“These changes will give schools greater confidence when hiring and will help more highly qualified teachers into classrooms while maintaining the high standards Victorian families deserve,” Carroll said.
Data from the VIT’s report shows applications from overseas increased six-fold, with 226 received in 2021 and nearly 1400 flooding in last year.
“Factors that have contributed to the increase [in] overseas applications include the opening up of borders after the COVID-19 pandemic and increased overseas recruitment activities by the education sector due to teacher workforce shortages,” the report states.
Just 3 per cent of candidates from overseas were rejected, the figures show.
