ITG Brands parent company closing German production plant

Imperial Brands Plc, parent company of Greensboro’s ITG Brands LLC, said Wednesday it is closing its plant in Langenhagen, Germany, that is operated by its Reemtsma subsidiary.
The plant began operations in 1971 and has 640 employees. In addition to making traditional cigarettes and fine-cut tobacco, the factory also produces sticks for tobacco-based heated cigarettes.
Imperial said the next step could involve either a sale of the site to a third party or a closure.
The U.K. manufacturer said the plant closing decision “is the result of a careful review of its global manufacturing network in line with the company’s recently refreshed strategy for 2026 to 2030.”
“It is based on the steadily declining utilization of global production capacity due to a long-term decline in production volumes in the traditional tobacco segment worldwide.”
Meanwhile, Tuesday also serves as the last day for a retiring Imperial chief executive Stefan Bomhard. He will remain on the manufacturer’s board of directors through Dec. 31 and be available as a consultant through April 30, 2026.
Chief financial officer Lukas Paravicini took over as chief executive Wednesday.
ITG has about 900 employees, plus 775 field sales employees nationally.
