Islam Makhachev: UFC White House perfect for me vs. Ilia Topuria

Islam Makhachev is the latest to announce his interest in competing at the UFC White House event. The Dagestan phenom has arguably surpassed his predecessor's legacy inside the octagon. Despite having more title defenses and facing bigger challenges in his UFC career than his friend and training partner Khabib Nurmagomedov, the 34-year-old isn't finished yet. Islam Makhachev will attempt to achieve a feat done by a few before him. Makhachev is set to face Jack Della Maddalena, hoping to add his name to the exclusive list of two-division world champions in UFC history. If he succeeds, Makhachev has his eyes firmly planted on a fight he considers the best in the business. The Russian believes a clash between himself and European superstar Ilia Topuria would be the perfect fight to headline the UFC White House card. "I don't know who's going to be next for Ilia," Makhachev said as confusion surrounds the 155 lbs division. "If we talk about our fights, I have good fights now, and I know he's going to fight soon. We'll see what's going to happen." "He wants to fight in the White House, and I also want to be there. For the MMA community, it's going to be a big fight." "People want this fight. And if the UFC wants this fight, then we can do it." "I know UFC wants to do some big fights in the White House. Which fight is going to be bigger than this?" The promotion's biggest stars are pushing to be included in what is being billed as the best event the sport has ever seen. If all goes to plan for Islam Makhachev, he will be successful in his pursuit of the welterweight title on November 15. However, for the aforementioned super-fight to go ahead, Ilia Topuria will need to retain his lightweight throne ahead of the June 28 pay-per-view in one of America's most iconic venues.
