The Internet Invitational has quickly become one of the most talked-about crossover tournaments in online sports entertainment. But is it just for creating content, or is there prize money to it? The Internet Invitational does have prize money, and it’s a seven-digit figure. There’s a $1 million prize money for the tournament of internet personalities associated with golf. However, there’s also an additional $700,000 announced by Dave Portnoy when addressing the internet golfers assembled at the Barstool Sports event. But what sets it apart isn’t just the money. It’s the format that keeps both viewers and players on edge. Early rounds are played as 2v2 scramble matches. There will be 12 matches, each worth 1 point. A tie results in half a point for each team. Basically, it’s like a Ryder Cup format. The second session is a 2v2 alternate shot format. The number of matches and the pointing system remain the same as in the first session. At the end of Day 1, the losing team will be eliminated, and the remaining golfers will advance to the next day. On Day 2, the event follows the Ryder Cup format, but with a twist. It is expected of internet golfers who like to use different tactics to engage fans. This time, they are relying on a skin game format. Each hole will have $4,000, and a tie means that the next hole will have $8,000 and so on. Thus, there’s enough opportunity for the participants to make good money. The second day will have the same format as the first, only with half as many teams, i.e., 6. At the end of Day 2, the losing team gets eliminated. Both the morning and afternoon sessions will be in an alternate-shot format. After the morning session, the top 2 teams will head to the final to battle each other and win the $1 million prize pool. The prize money will be distributed equally among all three members of the winning team. It is a diverse mix of golf influencers, sports personalities, internet creators, and athletes.
