Irish boxer Dylan Moran has announced his retirement from professional boxing following his loss to Tyrone McKenna last weekend.
Moran and McKenna ran it back after their bout in December of last year and it was McKenna that again came out on top with the fight waved off in the seventh round.
Moran, who boasts a 19-4-0 record, confirmed the news on social media and said that he ‘lived the dream’.
“Since turning professional many years ago I have lived the absolute dream had some years of my life that I’m very grateful for all because of boxing,” he posted on social media.”All of that being said with time everything changes I knew in the build up to this I wasn’t going to box again afterwards and that love that got me out of bed in the morning was gone and after spending the last two nights in hospital worried sick confirmed that for me.”
Moran said that his daughter’s arrival made him ‘become civilised, I guess’ and that he wants to be a ‘good dad and a good partner’ as he explained his decision to step away from professional boxing.
Moran singled out his mother for praise saying she is ‘the reason I am the man I am today’ and also said that he will continue to be involved in boxing in a coaching capacity.
McKenna took to Instagram to praise Moran, saying: “Legend dylan was a pleasure to share two incredible nights with ya. Hope you have success in whatever you do.”
While Michael Conlan added “Congrats on a great career mate, all the best in your next adventures.”
And Eric Donovan added, “Well done, Dylan, and well said. It’s a very hard decision to make, but when you weigh it all up, you’ve got your health, your loved ones, and you’ve lived the dream. Congratulations and best wishes for the next chapter.”
The Waterford man turns 31 this December and is nicknamed ‘The Real Deal’.
