The Fold could be “two iPhone Airs side-by-side”

The iPhone Air is unlike any iPhone we’ve really seen before, and some people (including myself) have speculated that this could be a precursor to the upcoming iPhone Fold. Turns out, we may have hit the nail on the head with that assessment, if Mark Gurman’s latest newsletter is to be believed.

According to the latest edition of Power On, the Bloomberg reporter claims that the iPhone Fold will look like “two titanium iPhone Airs side-by-side.” So anyone who figured the iPhone Air was testing the capabilities of an ultra-thin iPhone ahead of the foldable debut next year seemingly had the right idea.
Gurman also refers to the foldable as “the star of Apple’s 2026 product lineup,” which makes sense considering it’s the first time Apple has released a foldable phone. He also describes the phone as being “super thin and a design achievement,” while simultaneously being “ridiculously expensive compared with past iPhones.”

Gurman believes the phone will “be at least $2,000,” which would make it the most expensive iPhone ever released — and pricier than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. So if you’re hoping to pick up one of these phones, you may want to start saving. Gurman predicts that it should arrive during Apple’s usual Fall launch period, as the rumors have already suggested.

This gives you roughly a year to try and dig around the back of people’s couches for enough spare change to afford one.
iPhone Fold: What to expect

There’s still a lot we don’t know about the iPhone Fold, though. But as the 2026 launch draws closer, we have started picking up a few more tidbits of information.
Word is that this is a book-style foldable, and since Apple has reportedly settled on Samsung as a display partner, we may be looking at something with a similar layout to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Specifically, a large, folding inner display pair with a separate external cover screen.

That screen is rumored to have a 7.8-inch main display, with the cover display taking up 5.5-inches. Apple is also said to have really pushed to minimize the display crease, with some rumors suggesting we could see a crease-free display on the phone.
As for the thickness, it’s claimed that the phone could be somewhere between 4.5mm and 4.8mm thick when unfolded — or between 9mm and 9.5mm when closed. That makes it even thinner than the iPhone Air.
Battery is supposedly somewhere in the 5,000 – 5,500 mAh range, which is in the same region as the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and should hopefully offer much better battery life than the iPhone Air.
