Higher Education Minister R. Bindu on Wednesday formally launched the Internship Kerala Portal, jointly developed by the Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) and Keltron. The portal (http://internshipkerala.org/) is envisaged as an integrated digital ecosystem connecting students, universities and industries across the State, including public sector undertakings. It will enable students to seek internship opportunities on paid, non-paid and stipend modes. Presently, the initiative offers internships in over 20 skill sectors, including information technology (IT) and IT-enabled services, electronics, automobile, logistics and banking. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bindu termed the reform a major milestone in the ongoing restructuring of the four-year undergraduate programme. The initiative is bound to enhance employment prospects, and bridge the gap between academia and the professional world. KSHEC vice-chairperson Rajan Gurukkal presided over the function.
