The internally displaced people (IDP) of Manipur on Wednesday protested against the government decision to provide just Rs 84 per person as daily allowance. "It is not possible to live with this amount of money," they said.IDPs marched from Shajiwa to Sawoungbung sub divisional officers' office in Imphal East. There were similar protests in several relief camps. This new structure, circulated through an office memorandum issued by chief secretary PK Goel, replaces the existing system of providing relief material in kind with direct monetary assistance to each displaced family. As per the revised guidelines, supply of relief items like rice, dal, water and other minimum household material being distributed by the district administration would stop from October 31, 2025. From November 1, financial assistance of ₹84 per day would be paid directly to the bank accounts of the head of each displaced family.The decision was taken to ensure that the entire relief distribution process is more transparent, accountable and flexible, while at the same time giving the displaced families the freedom of choice to make necessary purchases for themselves. The district administration has been directed to prepare a digitised list of all camp inhabitants.
