Insurance programmes and schemes should focus on healthcare professionals and take care of their requirements, said Kanimozhi N.V.N. Somu, Rajya Sabha member, on Saturday (November 1, 2025). Speaking at the inaugural of Vividha - Health and Wellness conclave, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry - Indian Women Network (CII-IWN), Tamil Nadu, in Coimbatore, she said that health has become the national security of a country after the pandemic. Investment in women is not a welfare scheme but nation building. Insurance programmes need to be revamped so that there is more focus on healthcare professionals. Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, District Collector, Coimbatore, said the overall health, wellbeing, and financial independence of women are important. Women constitute nearly 47 % of the labour participation in Tamil Nadu and it is likely to be more than 50 % in Coimbatore district. Even in the administration, most of the heads of the departments are women. Women are a key part of the society and their wellbeing is an important factor, he said.
