Inspired By Assor Foundation leads free breast cancer screening at Akyem Saamang

The Inspired By Assor Foundation, in partnership with the Ghana Health Service in the Fanteakwa South District and the Mumuadu Rural Bank, has offered free breast cancer screening at Saamang and nearby communities. Speaking at the event, the founder, Mrs. Nancy Assor Asiedu-Amrado, echoed the Foundation’s commitment to the message: “Early Detection of Breast Cancer Saves Lives.” She urged all individuals to prioritize professional breast examinations every October and to adopt monthly self-examinations as a consistent personal health practice. District Health Director, Stella Konadu Owusu, emphasized recognizing symptoms such as lumps, breast stiffness, nipple discharge, and others, while advocating for healthy lifestyles to reduce risk. She took the audience through the six steps of self-breast examination. Speaking on behalf of the bank, the CEO of Mumuadu Rural Bank, Mr. Francis Mawunyo Kotoko, highlighted the bank’s commitment to community health, aligning the initiative with their Customer Service Month. He encouraged residents to explore the bank’s financial services to their advantage. A form three (3) girl from Saamang D/A JHS, who was given an appointment to report to the Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua, with her mother for further investigations, thanked the Foundation for this proactive move. Juliana Osei-Fosu and other volunteers of Inspired By Assor endorsed the initiative and pledged their continuous support. The Traditional Authority of Saamang expressed gratitude and reinforced the importance of regular self-checks, thanking Mrs. Asiedu-Amrado for the laudable initiative. Self-Breast Examination Checks: Step 1: Visual Inspection – Stand relaxed with arms at your sides in front of a mirror and look for lumps, dimpling, rashes, sores, or skin changes.Step 2: Arms Raised – Raise your arms and check again for any visible changes in shape or skin. Put both hands at your sides and lean forward to look for lumps.Step 3: Hands on Hips – Press hands on hips to flex chest muscles and observe for changes that appear with tension.Step 4: Nipple Check – Gently squeeze each nipple and check for any discharge or fluid.Step 5: Shower Exam – Raise one arm and use the opposite hand with soapy fingers to feel the breast using circular, wedge, or vertical motions. Repeat the process for the other breast, covering the entire area including underarms.Step 6: Lying Down Exam – Lie down with a pillow under one shoulder and use the opposite hand to examine the breast. Switch sides to repeat the exam on the other breast. About Inspired By Assor Foundation Founded by Nancy Assor Asiedu-Amrado, a Chartered Marketer, Brand Professional, and Philanthropist.
